Privacy Policy

WeatherForIt is operated by Ray McDermott ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

What data we collect

Location — Your latitude and longitude, obtained either from your device's GPS or from a location search. This is sent to Open-Meteo to fetch weather data and to Mapbox to resolve place names. It is not stored on our servers.
Account data — If you create an account: your email address and optionally your name. Stored securely in Supabase.
Payment data — If you subscribe to Plus or Pro: your payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
Preferences — Your theme (dark/light), Easy Read setting, saved personas, and last location are stored in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your device.
Cookie consent — Your accept/decline choice is stored in localStorage (key: wf_consent). It expires after 12 months.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser localStorage (not cookies) for preferences and session state. We ask for your consent before activating analytics or advertising tracking.

On your first visit a banner appears with two options: Accept all, Reject all, or Customise to choose analytics and advertising separately. If your browser signals Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track (DNT), we treat that as a rejection automatically without showing the banner.

You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page.

Third-party services

Open-Meteo — Weather data. Your location coordinates are sent to fetch forecasts. No personal data is attached. Privacy policy
Mapbox — Location search and geocoding. Search queries are sent to Mapbox servers. Privacy policy
Supabase — Authentication and database. Stores your account data. Hosted in the EU. Privacy policy
Stripe — Payment processing. Handles all subscription billing. Privacy policy
Google AdSense — Advertising is not currently active. When introduced, it will be shown on the free plan only, and only to users who have accepted advertising cookies. If you decline advertising cookies, no AdSense script will be activated. Privacy policy
Google Fonts — Fonts loaded from Google's CDN. Your IP address may be logged by Google. Privacy policy

How we use your data

To provide weather forecasts tailored to your location and activities
To manage your account, subscription tier, and billing
To show relevant advertisements on the free plan (with your consent)
To remember your preferences across visits

Data retention

Account data is retained for as long as you have an account. You can request deletion at any time. Payment records are retained by Stripe as required by law. Preferences stored in localStorage are deleted when you clear your browser data.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Export your data in a portable format
Object to processing or request that we restrict it
